Winnspiration?  Really?  I’m sorry.  I recently stumbled onto these young “full-timers” via ETSY.  They are living out of an old Winnie that they gutted and remodeled themselves, selling beeswax candles molded from antique bottles and the like.  So. Jealous.  The interior is so breathtaking as to squash any doubts anyone might have about the potential awesomeness that is mobile living.  Or at least, it helps, I hope.

Tonight: The Flaming Lips !

Sam’s uncle surprised us with tickets to The Flaming Lips for last night’s show at the Grand Ole Opry.  I was a little worried about seeing such an intense show there – as I usually am – because it’s pew seating and generally a pretty stuffy place.  It’s the kind of place you’d love to see Fiona Apple play When The Pawn… from start to finish.  Somehow they managed to make it feel like you were some place else entirely – the giant ball (Zorb??) even made an appearance somehow!

To be honest I was never really into the Flaming Lips.  There are some songs that I like, but I was never much into the psychedelic stuff personally – but LIVE it was a different story.  It was more like performance art.

I have to admit, the whole hippy LOVE vibe got to me, Sam claims to have even teared up at the end.  :)

We were able to get some amazing shots due to our awesome seats, awesome camera policy, and Sam’s all around photo taking awesomeness.  Made some friends, saw some old ones, all in all, it was quite a good time.

Ladies and Gentlemen, the Fabulous Diane Lane

Most people have never heard of it, and that is unfortunate!  It received poor reviews at a screening (it was ahead of it’s time) and was sort of forgotten about.  If you were ever wondering what happened between first wave punk and Riot Grrl, this was it.  It’s a 1982 film starring Diane Lane, Laura Dern, 2 sex pistols, an original Clash member, and directed by music producer Lou Adler.  This movie makes me feel alive and super feisty.

I know it’s all about selling individuality, and the irony in everyone following suit – but I can’t help it – it makes me want me to dye my hair and strut around town in my drawers.  Dream I might, but in reality I wouldn’t have the guts to let it all hang out, so here’s an updated and more realistic interpretation.

Speaking of Diane Lane, FUN FACT!  She turned down both Risky Business and Splash to film Streets Of Fire.  (Never heard of it?  Yeah, me either.)  She was however also in The Outsiders, and more importantly Rumblefish,  If you haven’t seen either of these you MUST.

Just look at this cast listing:

Both Rumblefish and The Fabulous Stains are streaming on Netflix right now, btw, so no excuses!

5 year mobile plan

Everybody wants freedom and what better represents that than mobility?  For the last 5 years I have been daydreaming of and drooling over other people’s mobile homes.  Not trailers, or pre-fab campers, but specifically old school buses converted into green living quarters.  I want solar panels, veggie oil, composting toilet – the works.  Imagine never having to pay rent again.  It’s almost frightening to imagine a life with so many possibilities, and I want it!

Jake Von Slatt’s bus is one I have been seeing pictures of for years.  I love the light airy feel of it, though I’m not a huge fan of the floorplan.  These guys have really taken it to another level completely, taken it a step further.  They created a second story by welding part of a vehicle to the roof of the bus, which also happens to lead to a fenced in lounging area.

Now all I need to do is brush up on diesel mechanics, carpentry, and oh, yeah, how to raise a lot of money fast, and I’m off!
