Park and Cube might just be my new favorite blog.  I have a short list of things to whip up before spring hits, and these amazing tutorials are very high on it.

5 year mobile plan

Everybody wants freedom and what better represents that than mobility?  For the last 5 years I have been daydreaming of and drooling over other people’s mobile homes.  Not trailers, or pre-fab campers, but specifically old school buses converted into green living quarters.  I want solar panels, veggie oil, composting toilet – the works.  Imagine never having to pay rent again.  It’s almost frightening to imagine a life with so many possibilities, and I want it!

Jake Von Slatt’s bus is one I have been seeing pictures of for years.  I love the light airy feel of it, though I’m not a huge fan of the floorplan.  These guys have really taken it to another level completely, taken it a step further.  They created a second story by welding part of a vehicle to the roof of the bus, which also happens to lead to a fenced in lounging area.

Now all I need to do is brush up on diesel mechanics, carpentry, and oh, yeah, how to raise a lot of money fast, and I’m off!

80 days, No smoking !

That’s right, it’s been 80 days since my last cigarette, and it has not been easy.  Even now, almost three months later, I still crave them.  I have dreams almost every night that in some way involve me smoking and later reeling with regret.  I smoked for ten years, and I’ve “tried” to quit several times, but I feel like I can finally celebrate my success.

You can read about all of the positive effects of quitting smoking here.  The most surprising and wonderful side effect for myself has been one that I’ve never heard mention of before, and that’s mood.  I feel like I have a lot more patience with people, and am just generally more pleasant than I used to be.  In a way, this makes me kind of sad to think that I spent ten years of my life feeling less alive than I could have.

If you’re wondering how I did it, or how I continue to do it, it’s quite simple, really.  I decided to.  I know, it sounds so trite!  All other previous attempts I had set out to quit for the sake of quitting, because it is what you are supposed to do.  This time I set out to be a non-smoker.  I thought about fresh breath, energy, and extra money.  I chose not to tell certain people, so I would have nobody to sneak around.

I did it for myself this time, nobody else, and it has stuck.  When I get the urge, I remind myself of how far I have come, and how much more I enjoy my life these days.  I spent nearly half of my life and somewhere around $15,000 on cigarettes, and I’m proud to say it has ended.

I win! I get a puppy!

I have recently emerged victorious from the ongoing “should we get a puppy?” battle.  The boyfriend has officially caved, and even claims that he too could use a good snuggling from something adorable – guess I just don’t cut it anymore!  I admit I’m a little nervous now that I have the green light.  Dogs are a lot of responsibility – especially puppies.  I grew up with all kinds of dogs always running around the house, but my mom was a dog training genius – she just let them train each other, and it worked!  Really well, actually..

I did a lot of research, I swear, and based MOSTLY on personality and the dog traits that would work best with my lifestyle, I’ve decided to rescue a French Bulldog mix.  Rescue, because I don’t believe in nor support puppy mills in anyway, and a mix to alleviate some of the problems that are prone to pure breds.  And yeah, they’re almost nauseatingly adorable too.

I leave in a few weeks for SXSW and so the date is set – April-ish!  Until then I’m drawing up plans for designer dog beds that I can build and looking at puppy porn.  Desire to Inspire is actually a great place to get two fixes, with Monday’s “Pet’s on Furniture”, I can covet both couches and puppies alike.  The wonderful puppy pictures via Love Maegan, are of LeRoy, her cute as hell Frenchie.

P.S.  I’m getting a girl, and naming her Peaches, after Peaches. ;)
